🏅Final Result

IU 1 Means Business

The APP Selkirk Indiana Regional delivered high-level collegiate pickleball and set the tone heading into Nationals, featuring a deep field of teams and a format that rewarded consistency at the top.

The finals showcased exactly why Indiana University (Thea Bertolini, Jaden Sebastian, Carter Maris, Michael Asplund) has emerged as one of the most dangerous programs in collegiate pickleball and why Purdue Boilermakers (Cate Osika, Elaina Schilt, Caleb Yeung, Jose De Andrade)  keep showing up.

  • Game 1: IU men (Carter Maris, Michael Asplund) edged out Purdue (Caleb Yeung, Jose De Andrade) 17–15 in a tight, back-and-forth battle that set the tone for the match.
  • Game 2: Purdue responded on the women’s side, evening the match with a strong performance.
  • Game 3: That’s when Carter Maris completely took over. Despite relentless defense and extended rallies from Purdue, Maris found another gear and powered IU to the win.
  • Final Game: IU jumped out front early and never looked back, controlling the match from start to finish to close out the championship.

If this matchup was any indication of what’s coming, APP Nationals are going to be must-watch pickleball.

⭐ Standout Performance

  • Carter Maris (Indiana University):
When the moment demanded a playmaker, Maris delivered. His takeover in the third game swung the momentum permanently in IU’s favor and sealed one of the most impressive performances of the weekend.

🎯 Key Takeaways:

  • Power programs like Indiana University and Purdue University flexed their depth and experience, while rising programs such as DePaul University and University of Pittsburgh proved they’re here to stay.
  • “Rising programs” is no longer a small category — it’s the new normal in collegiate pickleball. As these teams continue to mature, the sky’s the limit… move over college football, pickleball is here to stay 😉
