How Collegiate Works
& FAQs

Get answers to the most common questions about competing in collegiate pickleball.

The three major collegiate pickleball tours are the APP Collegiate Tour, the NCPA, and the Collegiate Pickleball Tour (CPT). All three tours run regional events and national championships, and each offers a team-based format for 4–6 players. (CPT and NCPA also offer a challenger bracket where individuals can compete).

While they share similar structures, each tour has its own tournament format, scoring system, and eligibility requirements. For detailed information on format and eligibility, visit the Formats, Rules & Eligibility section.

Each collegiate pickleball tour requires schools to earn a bid in order to compete at Nationals. In most cases, bids are awarded to the top 2–8 teams at Regional events, depending on the tour’s size and structure.

Tours also offer wildcard bids to schools that participated in Regionals but did not earn an automatic bid. In addition, the Collegiate Pickleball Tour (DUPR) awards an extra bid through its Campus Regionals, which are typically hosted by a facility or a participating school.

The exact number of bids and qualification criteria varies by tour. For full details, see the Formats & Eligibility Rules section.

Yes — and this is one of the biggest differences between collegiate pickleball and most other club sports. All three major tours award significant prize money at both Regionals and Nationals.

Across the tours, more than $250,000 in prize money is available this season. For a full breakdown of prize allocations, view our prize money summary on Instagram.

Yes—schools can host official Campus Regional tournaments, which have grown rapidly in popularity and offer another pathway to earn a bid to Collegiate Pickleball Tour Nationals. These events are especially active in the Northeast and Midwest. For hosting information and a full list of Campus Regionals, visit the official page.

This is one of the questions we receive most often. Facilities across the country frequently reach out to us looking for ways to support collegiate pickleball or host events.

To make the process easier, we’ve put together a dedicated guide outlining everything facilities need to know about partnering with tours, hosting Campus Regionals, supporting local clubs, and getting involved in collegiate competition.
