🏅Final Result
Ho hum… another recap, another familiar storyline: Utah Tech 1 defeats Utah Tech 2 in the finals. But trust us — this AZ Super Regional had way more going on than a predictable headline.
This Super Regional was truly SUPER in every sense of the word. 🌟
First, it was the LARGEST CPT Super Regional of the Fall Semester — 34 teams, 16 colleges, and players traveling from everywhere: Texas 🤠, Missouri 🌽, Nebraska 🌾, California 🌴and beyond. The brackets were basically a national sampler platter.
Second, it was SUPER because the level of play was shockingly high. 🤯The talent pool was deep, diverse, and full of players you haven’t heard of… yet. These athletes came to make noise, turn heads, and show the pickleball world they belong.
Third, it was SUPER thanks to how smoothly everything ran, even with Arizona tossing in a weekend of rain (seriously, AZ?! 🌧️).The last-minute move indoors to Center Court meant adjustments — like skipping DreamBreakers in pool play — but it kept the two-day event running on time. Huge shoutout to Jacob Smith from DUPR for staying cool, calm, and organizationally unstoppable. 🧊✨ Running a tournament is not easy, and he nailed it. And a shoutout to CollegiatePB too (yes, that’s us — shameless plug). We were SUPER helpers.🤣
Fourth and finally, it was SUPER because the vibe was electric ⚡.Players, parents, spectators, and fans all felt like they had front-row seats… metaphorically speaking (of course 😂). The energy was unreal. Everyone there knew they were a part of something special. And if the screams after every DreamBreaker point are any indication of where college pickleball is headed… the future is looking blindingly bright. 🔥😤✨
⭐ Standout Performances
Let’s shine a very bright spotlight on GCU — because wow, did they show up this weekend. 🔦💜
It was actually their 2nd team that made the deepest run, reaching the semifinals, while their 1st team got knocked out in the quarterfinals after a phenomenal DreamBreaker against Utah Tech 1. Both squads performed incredibly well, showing off some serious depth. But what really popped this weekend was just how strong GCU’s second team looked. In many college programs, their second team would easily be the first.
It takes four strong players to make a run in CPT format — and boy, did they deliver. 💪 They didn’t drop a single game in pool play and pushed Utah Tech 2 to a DreamBreaker in the semifinals. That’s no small feat. Impressive stuff! 👏🔥
Adam Jones & Xavier NcCorchuck (Seniors, GCU) 💜💥
Adam (a crafty lefty) and Xavier (a skyscraper of athleticism) were a force all weekend.
- Adam Jones — lethal lefty with a filthy drive and clever shotmaking that throws off opponents.
- Xavier NcCorchuck — long wingspan, strong movement, and extremely versatile across men’s, mixed, and singles.
Together, they’re a Purple Powerhouse — and yes, that’s absolutely a GCU jerseys reference. 💜⚡
Mary Lane Halloway & Hannah Eldridge (Sophomores, GCU) 💜✨
This duo is way too easy to underestimate — and that’s a mistake. They aren’t flashy, they aren’t loud, and they don’t rely on gimmicks. What they do have is smart decision-making, fundamentals, and calm in big moments, which is everything in rally scoring.
These two were absolute rocks in pool play:
✔️ Won every women’s doubles match
✔️ Won every mixed doubles match
✔️ Helped GCU secure the #2 seed (with UCSD taking #1)
In the semifinals Dreambreaker vs Utah Tech 2, they also proved they can battle in singles. These women had a SUPER weekend — huge congrats to them! 👏🎉
🎯 Key Takeaways
It’s almost impossible to put into words what makes collegiate pickleball so special. How do you explain the energy, the passion, the camaraderie, the memories being created, the growing friendships, and the pure joy that fills every venue? 🎉💜
There’s truly nothing else like it.
For anyone fortunate enough to be part of college pickleball — players, parents, coaches, clubs, fans — you’re one of the lucky ones. 🍀
Because it’s not just what happens on the court that matters. It’s what happens off the court, in the in-between moments, the laughter on the sidelines, the shared meals, the rivalries-turned-friendships, the collective belief that you’re all building something bigger than yourselves.
Those experiences? They’re life changing. 🌟
Collegiate Pickleball isn’t just growing — it’s making its mark.
🔝 Change In CollegiatePB Leaderboard
There’s a reason our algorithm rewards bigger draws — because making a deep run in a field of 34 teams is no joke. It’s tough just to reach the quarterfinals… and even tougher to break through to the semifinals or finals when you’re battling that many hungry squads. 😤💪
Only the top 12 teams advanced to the main bracket, while the rest headed into consolation play — which puts the level of difficulty into perspective.
Huge congrats to GCU and UCSD for powering their way into the semifinals! 💜🔱🐾 Both teams earned major points this weekend and climbed the CollegiatePB Leaderboard as a result. 📊⬆️
